Hi,

For some reason task manager has ceased to work correctly
along with msconfig.

When I try to open either of these app's they open
momentarilly then close themselves down. Regretably I do
not know when this first started to happen.

Does anyone have an idea of a fix or a reg hack to get
things back in good order.

Many thanks for your help

Hi,

Many thanks to those who offered help. However, several
virus scans reported the m/c clean; including ones from
Symantec for specific viri.

Doing a bit of digging in the HDD I found several dodgy
looking files with .scr extensions. Deleting these files
solved the problem.

Strange that the various scans did not identify the as
malicious... still at least I'm a bit wiser now.

Once again many thanks to those that offered help.

Virus scanners wouldn't pick *.scr files up, as they are usually your screen
saver files.

My PcCillin 2002 most certainly =does= scan .scr files .. it says so on
the packet, and you can watch it do it! Just as well, since .scr files
are probably the third or fourth most common type of email-attached
virus/trojan files.
