help with sound not working

I have windows xp and the sound works fine when the computer starts up. For
some reason the sound stops working after about 5 minutes. I have no clue
what is going on and it's really making me mad. Like unbelievable mad.

Does the sound stop in all programs and in Windows? Did this always
occur or is this recent? If recent, what changed between the time
things worked and the time they didn't? What is your sound hardware?
Computer specs, including approximate age?

It can be very hard for a non-technical person to know what to include

well i was wondering if there was a program to see what programs that require
sound are running so i can turn them off.

Only you can see what is running on your computer. Do clean-boot
