I've checked for the blaster worm - all clear.
When I followed you suggestion about the Print spooler I got this message:

Could not start Print spooler on local computer.
Error1068
The dependency service failed to start

What do you think?

I am having the exact same problem. Printer uninstalled itself after the most recent windows update, and the same errors when trying to reinstall

No worm, and spooler was already running, not stopped, and already set to automatic
Have also tried copying spoolss.dll and spoolsv.exe from another working windows machine as suggested by one of the Microsoft support files. Still the same problem

Through various searches, I am finding that a very large number of Windows customers are having this problem.

it seems everyone is encountering this problem i have just installed an update on windows xp and now a pop up keeps appearing saying RPC Server unavailable i'm hopeless on computers aswell, need some help.

In doing further research, I came upon a post from Cari on 6/2/04 [Subj = Re:
rpc and install error with xp home and lexmark] in NG
[microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax] that explains the Lexmark uninstall /
RPC Server Not Available behavior. Cari provided a link to a very helpful
article that gives step-by-step instructions (some only for advanced users)
but should help many out.

Thanks Cari!

I've got a similar problem in XP-Pro; "RPC Server" is unavailable. I can't
install / re-install printers because it says the "Operation cannot be
completed" When executing [net start] at the command line I get a 1075 error
saying that the service has been marked for deletion. Same error msg. when
trying to start Spooler in Services. RPC + Locator say they're running. I've
got 4 instances of svchost running in Task Mgr. I've tried regsvr32 to
re-register spoolss but I get errors saying it was loaded, but couldn't find
an endpoint. I've tried [sc start spoolss] and get a similar error that the
service is marked for deletion. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

BTW,

This user is my Customer Service Manager, so printing is important!

Oops missed the reply to say you've solved it.

Happy printing!
