help with new notebook

I just purchased a used thinkpad from a friend and I want to change the
registration information to my name (without doing a new install),
basically the notebook is set up with alot of programs that I need but
the windows system folders are all named after him and i want to change
them to my name, how do i do this. i was able to edit the registry, but
i can't rename the folder. it's under c:\documents and
setting\allan***** and i want to change it to my name. any ideas?

You can't just rename the user account. Make a new account for yourself.
