I have Win XP HE and lately my monitor display shrinks in about 3/4 of
an inch on top, bottom and sides.

I have not made any changes to the display settings and resetting the
adjustments on the monitor (an HP M90) only holds temporarily - then
the problem returns.

Does anyone have thoughts on what may be happening here? I would
appreciate any assistance.

This is an issue with the monitor, and has nothing whatsoever to do with
Windows. Suggest you contact HP.

The monitor's dying.

I'll play Taps for your monitor, go give it a proper burial.

Very possibly the monitor frequency in the display settings has changed.
Right-click the desktop, select properties. In the Settings tab, click on
Advanced. On one of the screens you should be able to change the monitor
frequency. Try them one at a time - smaller number first - then move up to
the next. If one of them causes the display to freak and quit, press the Esc
key within 15 seconds, and it should reset to the last working setting.

Time to get a new monitor. Go for the flatscreen. Pretty cool and a
space saver.

The only thing you can do in software is change the display settings. You
could try putting the drivers for the actual monitor in the settings for the
monitor. Some monitors have software adjustments but I have not seen that
lately in any I have.

That sounds like memory problem of the monitor itself more than your PC
or O/S.

I have a brand new Sony G400 19", worth around £500. I put it up on eBay,
and I couldn't even get £100 for it!

Wow! If shipping across the pond wasn't prohibitive, I'd have bought it <g>

Worth is not the same as cost, especially not original cost. Also, CRT
prices have plummeted in the last 2 years - I buy used Dell Trinitron 19"
CRT monitors from a local shop here in Sacramento for $100US. That's about
£56...
