Help with Hotfix: Ntoskrnl.exe, Stop 0X0000000A

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

When I attempt to connect to the internet using my Bellsouth DSL connection
software, a blue screen comes up that tells me that my memory is being
dumped, giving me a stop 0x0000000A error message in Ntoskrnl.exe.

I understand that there is a hotfix that I need (867778) that will possibly
correct this problem, but I cannot figure out how to get it - I see that I
can contact Microsoft for $99 and ask them, but that seems to be ridiculous.

Please help - I have all of the current updates from windows for my 2000
pro, including service pack 4. What do I need to do to get the hotfix?

Thank you,
Collin

All hotfixes are free but you'll need to make the call.

Dave,
Thank you for your reply...
Is my information correct - is that the charge to make the call? Also, I
saw this message on the support page for my error message:

"Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support
calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a
specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply
to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the
specific update in question."

Would this apply to my problem, and should I expect a charge - can I ask
them if I will be charged BEFORE I am actually charged? Also, can I
communicate with them via email to get the hotfix?
Thanks again,
Collin

Dave - Could you take a look at my post title lsass.exe in Windows 2000
General and see if you can give me some advice? I'm getting desperate...

As long as the symptoms you are experiencing are as described in the article, OS the same as the article, etc., you will not be charged. Don't ask about or discuss any other problems you may be experiencing.

I don't know if it applies or not. The hotfix will be free in any case
whether it fixes the problem or not. No to email, you'll have to call them.
