Here's what I get:

"MS Help and Support center has encountered a problem and needs to close"
(after which it closes)

....whenever I wish to access help from any program or windows itself.

Any suggestions as to what has caused this ? I have an inkling that during
spyware removal I removed one or another MS file in the process.

TIA

Section: Why doesn't Help and Support work?

To reinstall Help and Support: Go to C:\Windows\inf\pchealth.inf. Right
click and choose install. Have your CD handy.

Note: The folder is hidden by default. Go to Start/Run and type in: control
folders. View: Show hidden files and folders and uncheck Hide extensions for
known file types.

Thanks, I should've remembered kellys-korner before I posted here. In any
case, your above mentioned suggestion didn't work, nor did two or three of
the other suggestions on her site. It seems there is something a bit more serious
wrong with my system. I'll try the registry options tomorrow.

Uhmmmmm ..... I think I spoke to hastily. It would seem my aforementioned
repair attempts were successful afterall. Not having found the time to attack
the registry yet, I merely resigned myself to the fact that help was unoperational
for now. A few minutes ago I absentmindedly double clicked a help file and
...........voila ! Quickly rushed to windows help in the start menu and again, voila !

Old habits die hard, so I don't attribute this 'magic' to the fact that I didn't reboot
after those indirect registry & file repairs. I have nooooo idea what brought
about this pleasant surprise.

Thanks again for the help
cheers
