Is there a good example of a parts inventory database and reports that is
publicly available? I have an idea of what I need to do with the columns
for receiving and releasing parts, but I am not certain how to display the
current inventory for each part. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much, I will study this. Seems that the best way to get good
reports from Excel is by using Pivot tables. Is that correct?

Hi,

Take a look at my Excel database tutorial at

Hi Ed,

This is a good example of a sales database, but do you have an example
of an inventory database type solution?

Obviously the challenges are quite different, since you need to be
able to track inventory levels, valuation, and also maintain an audit
trail all of which adds up to far more complexity than just tracking
transactions such as sales - or perhaps not......?

Thanks in advance either way!

Alan.

Hi Alan,

My page is just a tutorial. You would need to use the methods described
there to build your own inventory tracking application.

If you want a ready-to-use solution, Microsoft has a couple of examples here
http://tinyurl.com/4y8ux don't know how well these match your requirements,
but they might be a start.

Hi,

Pivot Tables are a powerful reporting tool. I use them a lot.

There are other ways to create good reports in Excel (that do not rely on
Pivot Tables). These tend to be less flexible once completed. That is, it is
more difficult to change a report that is based on formulae than to tweak a
Pivot Table. Sometimes that is a good thing, sometimes not.
