When I format a cell to display the number as a date, the format is correct
but changes the numbers? Here is what it does:

I want to be able to type 51407 and have it displayed as 5/14/07, However it
displays 9/28/2040??

Please someone help me, I'm so frustrated right now, as I have been trying
to correct this for 6 hours! I have made sure my regional date/time options
have been set correctly in the control panel, made sure that when 2 digits
are entered it is in between 1900 and 1999, done several system recovery
attempts, but cannot get this fixed or figured out. Any and all help will be
much appreciated

1. In future, you should post MS Excel questions to an Excel newsgroup.
2. The behavior you are describing is _normal_
By default Excel starts counting days from January Zero, 1900.
Add 51407 days to that date and Excel does, indeed (as designed),
return 9/28/2040.
