When typing "Mr. Jones", how can I tell Word to treat the string, including
the space between "Mr." and "Jones" as one word, for formatting purposes so
that Word never is able to put "Mr." on one line and "Jones" on the other?

Ctrl+Shift+spacebar inserts a "nonbreaking" space.

Type a hard space (Ctrl+Shift+spacebar) instead of a regular space
between the article and the name.
