help wit windows

i got windows xp even on start-up it says windows xp BUT wen i go to
microsoft site it says u are running windows 95 and wen i try to install
sumtin like aim it says not compatable with 95
 
Open "My Computer" and click on Help > Is This Copy of Windows Legal?
and click on "Validate Now".

What would that have to do with XP being seen as 95 on the update site?
