Hi,

My PC running XP Home cannot talk to my webserver (dynnamic IP, configured
via Zoneedit). Ftp and ping also does not work. However, I can access my
server from every other computer in the world!

I tried disable PC NIS 2003 firewall but still does not work. I also
edited PC tcp/ip properties to include the Zoneedit DNS servers. No luck!

Is this a limitation of XP Home? I am so frustrated with two computers
next to each other that cannot talk...

What else can I do? LMHOSTS lookup is enabled. NETBios Over TCP/IP is
set to default (also tried enable but no effect).

My server runs Redhat 8.0. The server and PC connects to an ADSL modem via
a hub. The IP adddresses are dynamic (hence Zoneedit).

Please help! I haven't have a good sleep since Saturday!

xp home definitely has networking limitations, that is
the main difference between home and pro. If you have a
pro disk, you can upgrade the network components on the
home version

This is NOT a limitation of XP Home. It's probably NIS, uninstall it for
now.

I have tried deinstall NIS but no luck. The windows xp firewall has also
been disabled.

I enabled echo request and echo reply in NIS. That allows me to ping my own
computer from command prompt even with NIS enabled. But pinging my xp
computer from any other computer does not work, regardless of NIS.

How can I get xp home to communicate with other computers normally?

thanks,
lc

Just to make sure, you have uninstalled NIS, not just disabled it?

If you have uninstalled it then you probably should post back with the
results from a "ipconfig" from each machine.
