I am really in trouble. Any help REALLY appreciated.
I had a problem with Explorer. Sometimes, once, twice a day, it crashed with
classic message "I cannot write instruction". I read on a MSKB article that
I had to run SFC /SCANNOW. I did.
It started to scan. Randomly it asked to insert my original WinXP disk. So I
did. There were two strange behaviours, anyway: (1) it asked me to insert
the disk several times (>100), even if the disk was already inside the CD
driver; when I pressed retry, it accepted it; (2) few times (<30) it asked
me to insert the Professional version EVEN IF I have the Home version (!!!);
so I had to say "cancel" and it continued to scan. It seemed that it was not
simply scanning the system, but updating the DLLCACHE, anyway.
By the way, when SFC finished scanning, it just terminated with no further
message. Then I updated my WinXP Home from MS site. It installed few new
protections and asked me to restart system. I did.
System restarted, I saw the logo with progress bar, and then my system
switched off. I tried several times. No way.
I tried to enter in safe mode too. No way. The only mode I was able to enter
was Safe Mode with Prompt Command. First of all I chkdsk the HD (it is
FAT32). There were few file corrupted. So I copied
c:\windows\system32\dllcache to c:\windows\system32\dllcacheold and removed
all files from dllcache without removing the directory. Started again: no
way. System switched off my PC when it tries to load the login screen.
So I restarted system and asked to start from previous good configuration. I
got the blue screen for scandisk but I also got a bunch of _restore\_(....)
register-name like corrupted files. At the end of scandisk the PC was
switched off again.
My system is a WinXP Home SP1 Italian always updated from MS site. The PC
has two HD. A 80GB FAT32 with WinXP (C
, and a 200GB partitioned NTFS with
applications and data (several partitions: D:, ... H
.
HELP! HELP! HELP! REALLY!
