Hey everybody.

I've re-installed my windows xp home edition and have been trying to get the
updates but things have been going slow. The last time I got all the
updates using my DSL cable modem it was really fast. This time it only
downloads really fast but then slows way down. To install just one update
can take several hours and sometimes it never finishes and I finally have to
shut it down, in which case it didn't install.

Can anyone give me some advice about how to make the installation process go
faster?

Thanks,
Daniel.

The Windows Update servers are all over the place. The way that it works is
the one with the lightest work load is the one that you connect to. (Here
at FT Gordon the Great Network Managers have totally blocked the wondows
update...how lovely is that! Anyways.) If your connection is slowing down
that much it is a problem with your ISP. Also you can try to view the
Windows Update Catalog. That option will give you a complete list of all
the updates with the option to download them to you Hard Drive (I use a CDRW
that is formated with Direct CD so I use it like a floppy for all my
machines).
