My feeling is that you are not understanding how a computer uses memory
or the tool provided with Windows XP. This Article may help:

With regard to your computer please answer these questions.
Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?
How much RAM memory? What processor speed? Right click on the My
Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties any you will the
information on the General ta.
How large is your hard disk and how much free space. Right click on your
C drive in Windows Explorer and select Properties to get this
information.
What processor speed?

Inanswer to your question I run AVG free edition virus protection ,
spybot & lavasoft adware - all to no apparent avail ?!?
