I've got something really strange happening with my Outlook 2003 SP1.
When I create an email and enter a character I automatically get a
drop-down list of potential recipients. The strange part is that
there are LOTS of addresses in that list that do not appear in my
contacts list, nor are they addresses that I recognize or have sent
email to. Where do these come from and how do I clean it out?

I have McAfee AV and it does not detect a virus on my system.

TIA

FEature - Outlook saves previously typed email addresses in a file for quick
auto-complete. If you do not recognize the addresses, simply arrow down to
them and press delete.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Can you tell me how did those addresses might have gotten there in the
first place? I didn't type them in. Could they be adding when I
forward or reply an email that was sent to others besides me? Could
they be coming over from IM?

They are normally saved from when you address an email manually, but I am
not sure if they are saved when forwarding to a DL or to the previous
recipients. If you have another person who also uses Outlook on your
machine, the addresses could have been added to the auto-complete file by
them. They could also be the result of mis-typed addresses that you did not
use or corrected before sending.

Its a family (of three) PC and no one claims knowledge of those
addresses. I have removed the NKS file and we'll watch the list to
see when unfamiliar addresses start showing up again. Thanks for your
help!

Okay - hope it helps. If not, repost to microsoft.public.outlook for more
expert assistance.
