Hi,

Go to control panel, select QuickTime. Go through the settings and untick anything related to automatic update, prevent/notify if other applications try to steal file associations or quick start.

Reboot. Try installing again.

If no help check your SystemTray (down there, next to the clock). Is there a QuickTime related icon there? If there is right click it to get the menu and shut it down.

Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the list of programs running. Shut down anything related to QuickTime.

Try again.

When you are done do the same steps again. Otherwise you have useless QuickTime bs running all the time decreasing your performance.

When I installed Quicktime, it put a program called qttasks in the
start up lineup. Try to disable this using Start > Run > msconfig >
startup tab.
As other contributors have suggested, you might try uninstalling the
old Quicktime.

Good luck
