When using any program or having any window open, the
normally blue bar at the top of the window will turn grey
(as if another window was open on top of it) for a few
seconds. When this occurs, I am unable to perform any
functions on the page. Of course when I click on the
page, the bar at the top returns to it's normal color and
all functions resume. Please help as this minor problem
(I hope it's minor) is becoming increasingly irritating.
All suggestions are most certainly welcome.
P.S. I have run Adaware, Spybot, Spysweeper, Hijack this,
and CWshredder. I have also done a thorough scan with
Norton. I currently have no spyware or viruses that I am
aware of. Thanks for any assistance.

When the title bar turns gray, it means that the window has lost focus. The
window that has focus is the one to which keyboard input or mouse clicks
will be applied. A window loses focus because another window takes the focus
from it. When you click on the title bar, you force the window to regain
focus.

So what other window is stealing the focus? You can't see it because the
virus or spyware writer has placed it beyond the visible area of your
desktop.

So what are my options for determining what is causing
this malfunction on my computer? I really appreciate the
info Mr. Zieglar, and I hope that you can help me further.

Try this first: When the window you are working in loses focus, look at your
taskbar to see if a new button appears. If so, right-click on the button and
select 'Move' then use your cursor keys to move the window onto your screen.

If you don't see a button on the taskbar, run your computer with Task
Manager on top of all windows. When the window you are working in loses
focus, notice what new application, if any, or process appears in Task
Manager. That will help you to identify the culprit.
