Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help me out??

The sound is accelerated whenever I attempt to play an audio CD, movie
clips or internet radio...anything that has sound on it. This also is
not specific to Windows Media, it happens also in Real One, Quick
Time, etc.

So obviously it would have to do w/ some other setting on my computer,
but I am having difficulty finding anything that works.

Any Ideas????

Thanks!

I am going to take a stab at this. Normally these types of issues have to do with quartz.dll. That file is updated when you update DirectX. Have you tried:

Start | Run | dxdiag | OK and check if there are any "problems."

It might also be a result of "filters" you installed that came from codec packages. Microsoft's recent codec packs are just as dangerous as the free ones you can find on the Net although theirs don't have filters.

Common reason is that the sound card drivers are incorrect for the sound
card. This is commonly caused by an incorrect update overwriting the
correct one or misidentification during initial install. Anyway the fix
is to put on/install the correct ones for the sound system. Laptop=
Laptop manufacturer website, Soundcard=soundcard mfg website, onboard
audio=motherboard mfg website.
