Hi.
This is probably the wrong group to deal with this, but I don't know
where else to start.
Something has happened to my computer's sound system.
I had a total freeze of the computer. Have never had anything like
this happen before.
Nothing worked. Ctl.Alt,Del did not bring up task manager. The power
switch on the computer would not turn it off. I finally had to un-plug
it.
I expected to have problems with the boot, even perhaps a blue screen,
but that did not happen. What has happened is that my sound system has
drastically reduced in overall volume. Even the windows logon sound,
which usually blasts like a thunderclap, is barely audible.
I have checked every thing I can think of. It's a Sound Blaster, so I
used their built in Diagnostics. Nothing wrong there. Checked the
windows volume control settings. Again Nothing Wrong!
I have to have the sound cranked up to maximum to get anything near a
listenable level. The sound card seems to be working. I can raise and
lower the volume, change bass & treble settings, etc. But the sound is
so low it is hardly worth using.
Like I said, this is probably not the best place to deal with this,
but perhaps someone here has a clue, or a link or some other
suggestion.
I am stumped.
Thanks
