Most ISP firmware will active the modem built-in firewall, but I would
like to configure it myself. Only way to by pass it are: use router ( I
alaready invested my last penny to the system ), and windowXP TCP/IP
custom config. I wonder if any geek in here could guild me thru it?

TIA

I'm confused by your post. In your subject line, you say you wish to
configure your DSL connection without installing the ISP's software. In
the body of the post, you say you'd like to configure the DSL modem for
firewall purposes.

If what you want to do is really the latter, then how you do it depends
on the equipment the ISP has provided you. For instance, you can
configure the firewall capabilities of a 2Wire combo modem/router
(provided by SBC here). Go to the DSL equipment mftr.'s website to find
out how or call your ISP.

If that isn't what you wanted to know, then please post back clarifying
your question.
