After some recent downloads I noticed that my slide show screen saver was not
coming on. When I checked the desktop properties, I found the screen saver
section has been disabled. I don't want to do a restore and loose everything
I did today. Any suggestions?

You need to go to the registry editor using regedit(Start>run>type in
regedit) and go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

if there is a value such as "NoDispScrSavPage" with a data value of 1 this
will disable your screensaver tab, change the value to 0(double click on it)
or delete it and your tab should be back, this works for any of the tabs that
might be missing.

Edit the registry if the keys and values exists,

[HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop] or
[HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop]

Delete 'ScreenSaveActive'.

[HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop] or
[HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop]

Delete 'SCRNSAVE.EXE'

[HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop] or
[HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop]

Delete 'ScreenSaveTimeOut'

Also scan your system for malware with some free apps.

Thank you for the information on how to access the registry editor. I'm not
very computer savy. I checked the folders you indicated and that value does
not exist. Any other ideas? I do appreciate your help.

Whoops--I finally figured out WTC's instructions and that got me some access
to the screensaver settings by deleting the EXE line, but the time settings
are still disabled.

Thanks for the input. I finally found the registry folder with the
'SCRNSAVE.EXE'
line and deleted that. Doing so restored access to most of the screensaver
functions, but not the time setting. Any ideas?

Try these locations in the Registry.

[HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Control Panel\Desktop]

Delete 'ScreenSaveTimeOut'
