Common problem with a simple solution. Right click a blank area of the
Desktop | Personalize | Change desktop icons (left pane) | Put a tic in
Recycle Bin.

This occurred most likely because when right clicking on it to empty the
recycle bin you chose Delete instead of Empty Recycle bin.

Note Vista's Help and Support is quite good. Start | Help and Support |
Search on recycle bin. The first item in the list tells you how to do it.

1. Click on Vista's blue Start button and then click on "Help and Support".
2. Type RECYCLE BIN in the Search box, press the Enter key.
3. Click on "Show or hide the Recycle Bin".
4. Follow the self-help instructions.

You're welcome Randy, glad I could help.

Right-click on the Desktop, click Personalize, and in the left pane, click Change desktop icons. In the Desktop Icon Settings dialog, enable the Recycle Bin checkbox. Click OK. See also:

Right click on your desktop. Choose Personalize. At top left hand side of screen there will be a spot to choose "change desktop icons". When this window comes up - check the box next to the recycling bin. It should then show up again. If it continues to disappear as mine did - when it is on your desktop - right click on the recycling bin, make a shortcut to it and leave it on your desktop. The shortcut will not dissapear when the original icon does.
