Luke

Hi there,

I have a client machine with Win2k SP4 and MS Office XP
with the latest service pack.

The problem is quite simple to summarise:
The client machine uses files on a shared folder on an NT
4.0 server, as do another 25 machines around the office.

However, when this machine opens the documents, 90% of the
time they will open as read-only.

The only way to work around this is to browse to the
document in Explorer, right-click on Properties, and then
click the Security tab. This seems to fix the problem, as
the client machine will then be able to open the document.

Please help me! I have been trying to fix this problem for
weeks!!

Many thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke,

The problem appears to reside with security permissions, in
the network, I imagine. The best place to get help on network
issues should be the word.setup.networking newsgroup. Be sure
to mention what it is you do when you're in the Securities
page of the Properties dialog box!
