Help quickly plz, cannot edit text without deleting text.

Hi, im very new to word, when i try to edit text (if i made a mistake) then the text after it gets deleted!!! very annoying any help please?
 
Sounds like you have your INSERT key turned on. Press the INSERT (or INS)
key to turn it off. To see that it is on or off, look at the bottom middle
of the Word screen and look for the letters "OVR" If they are grayed out,
it is off, if it is black, it is on.

Hit your "Insert" button on your keyboard to turn off override & that should do it
