i have this adware toolbar thing that isnt picked up by my
adware program and i cant delete it... anyone know how?

Try this procedure and reset the toolbar setting from Registry
- Close all browser windows (Important)
- Open registry editor (start>run>regedit.exe)
- goto the following key:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar]

There are 3 sub keys: Explorer, ShellBrowser, WebBrowser. In each of these
sub-keys is the entry for ITBarLayout

For IE Toolbars: The WebBrowser Sub-key directly affects IE.
For Windows Explorer Toolbars: The Explorer Sub-key directly affects
Explorer.
The ShellBrowser sub-key may affect IE as well. Its effect on IE and Windows
Explorer is unknown at this time, so if the first option doesn't work,
delete the ITBarLayout value here as well.

Choose the relevant sub-key and right click where it says ITBarLayout and
select Delete.

The deleted value will automatically be recreated for you.

Automated fix available for dowbload from:

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/XP_ToolbarFix.zip

(OR)

Delete the Key "Toolbar"
Restart Windows. The toolbar configuration is not reset to defaults.

NOTE: Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com and update it. Then run a
full system scan. It should elimnate the toolbar.

Hi Josh,

To remove it manually go to: Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

To have it removed automatically, run this edit:

Remove Added IE Toolbar Entries (Line 174)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Clear Entries from Tools

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Extensions

Select each subkey and look at its MenuText value in the right-hand pane.
When you locate the menu item, delete the entire subkey.

See if it will uninstall via Add/Remove Programs. If it's a nasty one, it
won't....

If that's the case, update your anti-adware software... you've got to keep
those updated like your antivirus software, you know....

If you've run your scanner with the latest updates, and still can't get rid
of it, post back here. But include what the evil toolbar calls itself, and
what anti-adware software you are running.

FYI - I check for updates for Ad-Aware 6.0, Pest Patrol, and Norton Anti
Virus just about every day... one out of three days, one of them finds a
new definition it needs. There are new hijack programs, virii, and worms
coming out every week.

No problem. Stranger things have happened. It may even work. :o)

Ramesh,

This repairs the toolbars and replaces them when missing. Not sure if this
would apply.
