AMD 1.7 GHz,
1.5 GB RAM
3- 80 GB HD
XP PRO SP2 and all updates.

I have run, Spybot, ad-ware and hijackthis with no malware found
I have AVG A/V with no viruses.

There are several folders that I click on and the folder opens, but no
files or other folders will show. When I click on the white space I
get the error Not Responding and I have use the task manger to end the
program.
Also, when I go to my device manager, the box comes up but no devices
show, just a white box.
I swear it must be a virus or malware but I can't find it.

Anyone have any suggestions.
I need to start teaching on line in 2 weeks and need the system back
up, preferably not being wiped out and reloaded.
Thanks for the help.

just for giggles, see if they became Hidden Files. Click on TOOLS,
Click on FOLDER OPTIONS and then select Show Hidden Files. Now see if they
appear, if so go to the Folder where there are and click on Properties and
then make sure Hidden is NOT checked.

There is another thread at the moment called "No devices in Device
Manager" that might help. . . worth a look.

Hi Skip,

Which type of files are having issues with? As for the Device Manager being
empty, this often has to do with a service.

Go to Start/Administrative Tools/Services. Scroll down to Plug and Play
Service and stop and restart it. Once done the Device Manager will populate
again.

Added info:

To extract: Go to Start/Run/CMD and type in the command below: (Substitute
C and D accordingly).

C:\>extract d:\i386\devmgmt.ms_ c:\windows\system32
\devmgmt.msc

where d: is your CD rom Drive with your windows XP CD.
Whatever your CD rom drive letter is then substitute it in
the command line.

Or:

Restore the Device Manager (Line 107) Right hand side
