help please

my computer has become really slow whilst connected to the internet.i quite
often get virtual memory warnings and when i look at the page filing i'm
showing in excess of 500mb. I also keep getting pop-ups to adult sites that i
obviously don't want. in addition to this my homepage keeps being reset to a
page i haven't set.
antbody know what i can do? will re-formatting sort my probs or is that too
drastic?

it seems to me you need to install a Firewall.........install a virus
scanner....and an anti adware program.
And of course learn how to use all these programs.
firewall..................ZoneAlarm
anti virus.............AVG
anti ad.................Ad-aware or Spybot-search&destroy
all are free or have free versions....................use Google to find them

I would guess that you have been targeted by spyware/malware. Download
Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. When I had this problem, I disabled
system restore, booted in safe mode, ran the two above programs, as well as
antivirus, and deleted the affected files. Then restart as usual, make sure
your system restore is enabled. Be sure to use a good firewall and run your
security programs frequently, and keep them updated. Be careful when
opening files and attachments.
