Same problem after updating windows. System works fine until click on restart or shut down and then it hangs on the screen windows 98 is shuting down. No hard drive or any noise coming from machine. I quess I could wait forever and nothing happens
This is a several year old machine with windows 98, 3GB hard drive, 32 megs of ram
The only problem I have found is under hardware - device manager- advanced power management support has a yellow box beside it. It has a trouble shooting of (force apm 1.0 mode and disabel power status polling) which I have tried both with no luck.
The devce status says this device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed
(code 10)
I do not have the master cd for this machine so if anybody can please tell me where I can find a new driver or any other ways to fix this problem I will be surely thankful. Thanks again.

Has it ever worked properly? You might have a motherboard problem if it used
to work and now doesnt. The other thing if it has never worked you may just
have a board that doesnt support the ACPI function. Most older systems dont
support such features. Hope that helps a little. Mark

I have also had this problem when I used to use win 98se. There may be a
flaw in the program (suprise suprise!). It stopped 'hanging' once I
downloaded all the updates for win98 from Microsoft
