Yesterday I was having problems with my Internet Explorer, so I decided to re-install it. After I uninstalled it and my computer restarted, the logo for windows xp showed. But when it was time to choose the user, that screen did not show. instead, the computer screen went black. I have not been able to use it since because every time I restart it, it does the same thing. I need all of my files and I need to use my computer. Can somebody please tell me how to fix it? You can reply here and to my email at (e-mail address removed).

Hi Mercedes,

Yesterday I was having problems with my Internet Explorer, so I decided to re-install it. After I uninstalled it and my computer restarted, the logo for windows xp showed. I have not been able to use it since because every time I restart it, it does the same thing. I need all of my files and I need to use my computer. Can somebody please tell me how to fix it? Try going to the Recovery Console using the XP CD and typing:
chkdsk /r
This should fix errors on the disk, it may take awhile though.

If still no joy, consider doing a repair-install, it should keep your
files, but you will need to go to Windows Update again, after enabling
XP's firewall or a third-party one.

Good luck
