on start up i receive a "Windows - Delayed Write Failed"
error...the error states that windows was unable to save
all the data for the file C:\ (insert one of MANY file
names here)...it then tells me that this data has been
lost and that this error may be caused by failure of
hardware...any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

Usually the hardware failing for this message is the hard disk.

A good first step would be to back up that drive to another one, in case the
drive is in fact physically failing. Many hard disks come with 'cloning'
utilities that will do a full working copy of one drive to another.
Maxtor, for example, has MaxBlast that can run from one bootable floppy, as
long as one of the two drives is Maxtor.

Following that, once your data is safe, run diagnostics on the drive, but
bear in mind that it may simply be failing and there's not a lot you can
practically do short of replacing it. Drives aren't exceptionally
expensive these days...

thanks for the input...i'll try out the above
suggestions...not very hopeful though...it's tough to get
any applications to actually run...might just be time for
a new drive...cant believe it...this drive is only six
months old
