Morena Howard

I use windows Me, I saved an attachment that was emailed
to outlook express and made two separate documents from
it, however, I have realised that I have saved these in a
temporary internet file (mistake) I have gone back to it
this morning and it has gone!!! Is it possible to retrieve
somehow?

Morena

Two things to try:

1. Open Word. Click "File" menu. Is your last file listed at the bottom of
the dropdown menu?

If not, try #2

2. Hold down the "Flying window" key on your keyboard and press "E" (opens
Windows Explorer). Click on your "C" drive in the window to the right.
Click the "Search" icon (not sure on ME, but it is either a button on your
toolbar or under "Tools", "Find", "Files and Folders". make sure your
settings are set to search "Hidden files and/or folders". Type "*.doc" in
the file name box. Click the "Date" option and set it to the last two days
or so. Click "Search Files". When found, double-click on the file and do a
"File", "save as" to a folder you know of.

Does this find it?

Thank you for getting back to me, I've tried both and
neither work!!! unfortunately.

Then I guess you used the default fine name when you opened the attachment
directly from your e-mail program. As Suzanne posted in your other message,
this doesn't really save the file. Got to give it a new name and save to a
useful folder.

SORRY!

With an application like File Recovery or Easy Recovery Pro you *may* be
able to recover the now deleted file from the temp folder, but if you want
to follow this approach, the more you do on the machine between now and the
time you try and recover the more the liklihood that the file will have been
overwritten.

There might be hope: in your WinMe Explorer Folder make a setting so that
all files appear. Click to the temp folder and look for the file.
The chances are even better if like most of Windows, your Internet Explorer
IS NOT set to empty Temp content when the browser closes. Go to Internet
Explorer, Tools-General-Temporary Files-Settings-Show Temporary Files.
That's if you know for sure the document was there in the first place.
