Hi,
I just brought a 19in CRT monitor, GNR Haier HV900CS 19ins CRT 0.25mm
1600x1200@75hz Monitor. However windows XP won't recognise the drivers,
and I am unable to find an XP driver on the net. Since using the monitor
I have had the computer freeze on me. Could this be the monitor, or do I
have another problem? XP is running the monitor as a plug in and play
monitor. Thanks for reading this. Paul

The monitor makers website does not offer XP drivers for the unit? If not,
you are likely stuck using the generic Windows drivers. The freezing will
be a different issue. The monitor does not actually talk to Windows so it
is unlikely to be the source of the freezing problem.

Kevin, Thanks for the reply. I thought it could be a coincidence, but
would windows try and put the monitor into standby mode on shut down?

On no signal the monitor will put itself into standby.

P.S. A monitor is an output device that displays what it is given. Windows
doesn't care less what monitor if any is connected and does not communicate
directly with it.

The video card talks to the monitor....and it needs to be capable of diplaying
that resolution(1600x1200@75hz)
Check your drivers for your video card

Thanks Sleepless,
In the hours since posting this message I checked the whole computer and
found a problem on the motherboard. The FSB settings were out giving the
wrong CPU recognition XP1500 instead of XP2100. Since fixing this, so
far everything seems ok. Its strange the only thing I thought I had
changed was installing the new monitor. Thanks for your help, Paul

Thanks for the advise Peter, I had always asumed you could connect
(almost) any monitor to any PC. As it turns out I think this was a
separate problem that coincided with the new monitor.
Thanks again Paul

With one or two ATI driver releases, disconnecting a DVI monitor would cause
a BSOD, immediately and with 100 % certainty.

I'm not aware of the details in the DVI protocol, but I imagine the back
stream to the computer is very limited, but maybe more than in VGA.
