Hi All,

Could someone tell me how I can get my calculator back? I somehow deleted
it through "Add and Remove Windows Components" and when I attempted to
reload it, I get a message to load the Windows CD, I have never had a
windows cd, my machine did not come with it (pre-loaded when I bought the
puter.

Thank you in advance,

Tom

DO NOT run it.
Do not trust anything posted like this. This will mess with Zone Alarm.
The real answer is: go to control panel> add/remove progs> add/remove win
components> its under accessories - add it, insert CD > away you go.

What's zone Alarm got to do with the price of fish?
The guy already said he didn't have the CD.
The attached is a valid copy of calc.exe

The OP has no disk. There should be a restore partition on the HD. If that
is the case, the only thing to do is backup anything of importance and
restore to "as sold" condition.

Actually you are right - I apologise. ZA wanted - for the first time ever -
to block my running of the app. It is however a fully working and clean
version of the app. It is okay to run.

SNIP

I must ask, however: why are you posting a copyrighted app to a NG - even if
the copyright is owned by the NG owner?
Is that considered OK?

But that is the problem, my puter did not come with a windows xp CD.

Sorry for the misunderstanding - the posted app will work okay and appears
safe to download (disclaimer - I say appears).
The problem will be if you need to reinstall in the future - do you have a
recovery partition?

Hi Tom,

When prompted for the CD, redirect to the I386 folder, like found under
C:\Windows. Start/search/files to locate it.

Having thought about this I withdraw it - the apology and the retraction. In
this case I was probably wrong BUT:
1) running files from usenet without scanning/thinking is asking for
trouble.
2) it is questionable that an MS app should have been posted here anyway.
3) why would anyone trust someone who posted an MS app via nntp?
Chris

That did it, thanks much.

Cheers,

Tom

Simple, when you deleted it, it was removed from C:\Windows\System32
WindowsXP has it in two directories, the other duplicate copy is in: C:\I386
Use Windows Explorer and copy and paste it to the system directory and it is back.

If you don't have the xp cd make a backup of the i386 folder onto cd just
incase something drastic happens and you need to format and reload windows.
