I have a Dell Dimension 8250 with 256 MB and Windows XP Pro. Within
the last couple of days I have noticed my page file usage will
spontaneously jump to around 1 GB, and correspondingly there is only 3
or 4 MB of physical memory. I can hear that the hard disk is also in
full use. Needless to say, the machine becomes extremely sluggish.
Then, it will spontaneously "turn off" and everything goes back to
normal. It goes on and off unpredictably. I can't figure out what
process it is that is causing this: none in the list of processes in
Task Manager shows any appreciable memory usage.

Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions!

I have a very similar problem; which I find odd - my computer has been
stable for about a year and as of yesterday, I found that my computer
has been grinding to a hault.

I can't seem to find a pattern; it appears to be happening even with
just the screen saver running. My computers Page File will jump to
1.42GB, from 246 ish, and after a few minutes, simply fall right back
and operation continues as exepected.

Not sure if it's a new worm or perhaps, a problem with the latest
updates - I recently installed the newest update for MSN messenger, as
well as the other monthly windows updates...

Any suggestions would be great
Kevin

I don't have messenger installed, so while it could be due to some new
update, it is not messenger related.
