Can someone help me please.
A few weeks ago I did a check at HP Compaq for any updateded drivers and
such, I updated the BIOS from 3.08 to 3.11 for my Presario SR1130NX Win XP
home machine. And I also installed a Logitec smart Keyboard, I am not sure
wich is causing the problom but now everytime I restart my PC sometimes
windows loads completly and sometimes it only loads the backround picture and
an outline of the task bar, but not the whole task bar itself just an outline
of it, but no icons or short cuts or anything else. I can so far bring up the
task manager to re-start the PC. This happens everyother time I re-boot the
PC and if I try two or three times it will finally load corectly. I tried to
do a re-store point to a previous day before doing the BIOS and keyboard
updates but after re-store runs I am givin an error saying re-store could not
do it for some reason or other and nothing has changed. So Is there a way to
go back to the BIOS 3.08 maybe? I can not find anything on the HP or Compaq
site and am wondering if someone here may know what is going on, or a link to
download an older BIOS like 3.08.

The bios is not part of the operating system , so system restore will not
work. It may be a setting in the bios that might be affecting the way the
operating system loads , since the problem happened after you updated it.
This also could be coincidental. Check all the bios settings . Do a repair
install if that fails. JJ

In a lot of cases, when you update the BIOS, all settings revert to their
factory defaults. It is best to boot the PC into BIOS mode and take a
look/adjust settings as necessary. Do be warned, however, that the BIOS is
a dangerous area to "tinker" with unless you know what you are doing. If in
doubt of any changes made at the time, always exit without saving..

Ok how do I do a repair install, and will it be like a complete re-install of
windows, where I will lose all my files and mp3 and such?
And if I need to how to do it?
Thanks, I am not so sure about re-setting BIOS settings cause I don't know
what they should be in the first place.

Use the web to research the questions that you have asked me. You should
have a good working knowledge on how to make changes in the bios before
doing so. This would be critical if you update the bios , which is known to
be tricky. Rule of thumb is not to do it unless the update is needed for
computer to run properly. Repair installs only repairs the operating system
and files and settings are usually not affected . This procedure can
sometimes go wrong so backing up important files are essential. Some
manufacture disk do not allow for this and give you a reinstall as the only
option. Check with HP in your case . Good Luck . JJ
