Recently on my notebook I'm getting this error message when trying to start
OL 2003 - "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the
Outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not
available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists."

OL will not start on the notebook. This computer is at home and I also have
a desktop - and a wireless network. Everything else seems to be working
just fine and the network has no problems. My ISP is Comcast. What's
strange is that there is NO problem starting OL on my desktop. As far as I
know OL is set up the same way on each computer.

What exactly does this error message mean and what is the fix?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

We could do with a little more info:
1. Are you using Outlook to connect to an Exchange server at your company?
2. Are you connecting over VPN? If so, can you verify that you can connect
to your company network correctly?
3. If you are connecting to an Exchange server, are the account settings
identical on both the desktop and the laptop? (eg. has the server been
renamed since you last used your laptop?)

Open the mail profile (Control Panel's Mail applet) and use the Data Files
button to see where Outlook expects to find the PST. See if the PST
actually exists there. If so, run SCANPST on it to see if there are any
errors.

thanks! - that worked! - curious that all of the sudden it would error out
that way?
