Help needed setting default for "arrange by"

Hi, I know this is a pretty basic request, but I am
having trouble setting "Arrange by" to name in explorer,
my computer seems to have it defaulted to modified. I
have managed to set it to name in normal folders, but
when I am loading files it is in modified order, and no
matter how many times I change it to by name, it changes
back as soon as i leave the folder.

Can anyone help with what I'm doing wrong? Thank you in
advance.

XP will remember 400 folder views by default.

Changing this in any way (either by resetting the 400 remembered views or by
increasing the number of views)
involves going into the registry. Best not to walk you through reg edits,
so goto http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
and see if "increase folder view size limit to 8000" will work for you.
 
Thank you for the reply, but this did not help me. I still have items arranged by modified as default.
 
double click "my computer"...goto "tools"..."folder options"...click on
"view"...scroll all the way down and put a check in
"remember each folders view settings", click OK to exit.

go back to your folder...make the setting change you want, then close
it/reopen it.
