I know it sounds wierd but I was installing some software that
collapsed on me and I can't re-install as the installation program
can't open the folder xxxxxx. I am a single user, no sharing, no admin
and I am LOST as to how to delete it! Any help will be greatly
appreciated - I'm not a newbie but feel like one at the moment - Thanks
in anticipation - John

Use this program to delete it: (delete on boot)

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html

(this program can delete anything regardless of what windows wants

Hi

thanks for the link BUT it couldn't delete it - Access is denied -
error

Good program to have in the box anyway - any ideas appreciated...

So the program does or doesn't show up as installed.... If it is
'installed' you can get some uninstaller software utilities. Are youi
trying to delete a folder, a specific file or a whole program????

The application is not installed but [ i guess ] a folder was created
when it tried before? and it is still there and the "access is denied"
error stops the installation at about 56% - the company supplying the
software haven't a clue!

I think the folder was generated when I installed, without success, an
old version of the software - the company allowed me to download the
new version which they claim installs perfectly elsewhere - but - as
above dies on me - I just feel if I can delete the folder things will
work fine - I have tried in DOS...

Thanks

John

It is a folder in windows/twain_32 folder - I don't know if the folder
I wish to delete is empty or not

could you not have look inside the folder to find out if it is
empty.... If it is not empty try deleting the files inside it one by
one....

Also when you tried out the software i recomended (moveonboot) did you
try and delete the folder or files.... ????

Method 1:
Try deleting folder from command prompt
rd <drive:\folderpath>

Method 2:
Use a boot disk to remove it.
You can use recovery console available on your WinXp Setup disk

Method 3:
Download Unlocker
Most of the times, it works ! Search for it ( I cant remember the url)

Hi John,
Did you try to delete it in Safe Mode?.

Take the ownership of the file/folder again and try to delete it:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

If all fail try to download this tool and know the exact File/folder path
and check mark it and click Delete, download from here:
http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/index.htm
HTH.
Please let us know.
Regards,
nass

Hi

many thanks for the three tips

method 1 Failed

Method two - I was hesitant to do as I was not confident that I could
cope with it.

BUT METHOD 3 worked just fine many thanks to you

and to

everyone who ploughed in to help me with this problem - really really
appreciated and it shows what a community spirit there is in the world
- totally unselfish - just people willing to lend a hand

Big Thanks to ALL

John
