It's a BIOS setting and some vendors choose not to give the end customer
access to said setting.
Since you told us nothing about your hardware - that's about all the advice
you can get.

Sometime a BIOS update will expose the settings - other times it is some
"keystroke" that you have to know about to see it. Most - though - make it
obvious.

Why do you *need* to disable it?
If it is for some program - find a better program. heh

i need to disable it for the music production hardware to work properly. its
called Mbox by digidesign - like a portable recording studio! =) so....need
to disable it. cost me £300! i am using a fujitsu siemans laptop, windows XP
home edition, 1GB RAM, Pentium 4 duel processors! ...thanks for your attempt
to help me. i think if i type in 'msconfig' under the 'run' part in the start
menu i think if u click under the boot.ini tab you can turn it off there??!?

Try running the software in Windows 98 Compatibility Mode. There are
some reports that this has fixed software problems attributable to
Hyperthreading.

Good luck

You can *install* the program using Compatibility Mode and that means
you don't need to disable HyperThreading first. The whole point of
using Compatibility Mode from Ron Martell's suggestion is that you
wouldn't have to disable HT first. Go to the link and read the
instructions or look in XP's Help & Support for Compatibility Mode.
Here's an excerpt from the page that is applicable but it would be good
for you to read the whole thing:

"Note: If a compatibility problem prevents you from installing a program
on Windows XP, run the Program Compatibility Wizard on the Setup file
for the program. The file may be called Setup.exe or something similar,
and is probably located on the Installation disc for the program."

Otherwise I would contact the music program's tech support for help with
their product. You paid a lot of money for it and I'm sure such an
expensive program has tech support.
