I just loaded XP pro SP2 into my brand new PC, and am about to load in
applications. Actually, I had it done at a shop because the ASUS bios
and SATA hdd configuration intimidated me.

I have three (sometimes 4) computers on my Ethernet DLINK DI604 router
which connects to the DSL modem. My computer has the HP scanner, my
wife's computer has the HP printer.
I have a couple of 250G USB drives I use for most of my data and mail.
So my question is what order should I load in the apps? I remember
reading somewhere that there is a right way and a less right way.
My apps will include these and lots of others I will realize I need
later.

Verizon Internet Security Suite (downloads, I have a subscription)
Firefox & Thunderbird (download)
MS Word suite (CD)
HP 5500c scanner software (download)
Koday EasyShare
Photoshop7 Illustrator9 CorelDraw6 (all on CD)

Doesn't XP make an image of the registry upon install?
I usually start screwing up my registry within the first 15 minutes,
but never actually learned how to restore it or deliberatly archive
it.
Since Windows is already loaded, is it too late to configure it for
dual boot? I would like to run Server 2003 on this too for practice at
hardening.

any positive remarks and good suggestions would be welcomed!
TIA

Most importantly is to install all your device drivers and updates first.
Then I don't think it matters which way you install your
Software though I would start with your Internet Security Software
first. Yes, your registry is backed up on a regular basis. It's called
System Restore. If you restart your computer after each program you
install I think that System Restore is also activated.
Not exactly sure of that though.

getting the antivirus software going has turned into a big challenge.
It's provided by Verizon, and they're total idiots. The DSL is
working really good for us and thank God they pulled wire down here in
the boonies so we can have the bandwidth, but if you have ANY issue,
you're into hours of frustration.

thanks for your suggestions
