o
i have 4 partitions , C, D, E, F.......20 GB EACH OK
the prob is i had win xp on D and win 98 on
then 1 day i delelted 98 files from logging in in xp ..
then on startup it showed 2 options but only 1 worked thats win xp!

there was a virus on D (xp) so i installed another XP (fresh ) on
agai
...but that did not work after installation for some reason...so agai
i deleted the files after logging in from Dxp ...
so on boot up i had 3 option win xp win xp and win 98 ..but only
worked .
by going in startup and recovery options i changed the text file an
on boot u
now i have 2 options win xp(works)ndows default (doesnt work)..
o
now the problem is i want to format C but i am unable to do so...
i log in from D ( xp ) and then in C(NTFS file sys) but it say
windows was unable to complete the format .
other way by going in CMD i try to format but no use ..
i think it s cauz of old system files left on C .(thought i cant se

- Boot the machine with your WinXP CD.
- Allow drive C: to be formatted.
- Do a fresh installation of WinXP.
- Install a good virus scanner.
- Do not connect the machine to the Internet
until your virus scanner is fully operative.

this solution doesnt work!!!
i have also tried diskmgmt.msc by
running disk management but useless ,,as D is boot volume and C is
system volume ..........altough there is no file on C its completely
empty!! i dont understand what to do ..how shud i format C ...

So. At the begining You should start system from Live CD - like
www.knoppix.org and then use partition maker to operate on Your C. You can't
do it now probably becouse the MBR is write on it. Knoppix should help as it
won't use You HDD to start. You may even delete C partition completely - and
then made new one during XP instatation.
Be aware that having two partitions with XP instalations may be inconsistent
with some licenses. ;->
Good Luck !

I take it that you don't have the original XP installation disc.
If you did you could just boot to that disc and format and reinstal
in one swoop

Do you have a copy of the installation program.? Then you could mak
yourself a slipstreamed version and use it to format the c dive an
reinstall the operating system

Checkout Bart's PE and also Simple slipper build you a slipstreame
installation disc and it should be able to get you fixed up
