I'm not sure if this is the right newsgroup but i am
desperate. I lost power during a system restore. Now my
mouse does not work, so it is impossible to log in to
windows to see what kind of damage has been done. I can't
get to my control panel or my desktop. I get an error that
drive is not consistent, then the screen goes to the log
in screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hold on the nuke and pave there...

If the instructions from the other helpful poster do not
work - look at knowledgebase article 307545 (I recommend
you READ it so you KNOW there is another solution).

However, I recommend you do not try this yourself unless
you are comfy in DOS and do yourself a favor and don't do
a repair installation or you will blow away any back up
restore points.
If the data is worth saving you might just cave and give
the techs at MS a call - they fixed me with a hosed
registry in about 1/2 hour!!!
If you bought XP retail and have not made any calls to
MS - you pay the long distance and they pay for the
support.
cheers
