After a few minutes, I lose everything on my desktop....start bar, & my
icons, but not my wallpaper. Where can I fix this problem?

TIA

Check to see if you are using Active Desktop because you can have it set to
hide icons when displaying as a webpage, as for the taskbar that is
different entirelly. Does that disappear after a certain amount of time too?

Did this just start happening recently?

Have you tried a system restore to a point prior to its starting?

Everything disappearing sounds like Explorer.EXE crashing. You've probably
got some kind of malware that attacks Explorer or one of its dll's. To get
explorer and your desktop back, press <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Esc>, File | New task
(Run)... and enter explorer.exe in the box. Then click OK. Then, google
Process Explorer and download it. Run the program and check to see if there's
anything suspicious. If you suspect something, report it back here.

GMMAN,

You need to know what you are looking for in order to use a process viewer.
If you are a coder like I am then you can write a process viewer in 8 lines
of code :))

If you failed to reboot the explorer.exe, please try following steps:
1. Prepare OS CD (set to CD-Drive)
2. CTRL+ALT+DEL
3. TASK MANAGER
4. File(F)
5. New Task(N)
6. CMD.EXE [OK]

In CMD.EXE:
7. sfc.exe /scannow [Enter]
8. Restart Windows

Also note that <Ctrl>+<Alt>+<Del> may display a dialog box in XP Pro. Click
the Task Manager button to access it. Better yet, just use
<Ctrl>+<Shift>+<ESC>. It's universal on both XP and 2000.

When I boot up my computer and then click on my user name, I get an error
message that Windows Explorer has encountered a problem. When I click out of
that, the screen is blue and blank. I can't get windows to go further. When I
follow the instructions for reconfiguring to a new start point, I get a
message in the prompt line "Access denied". I also tried the string below,
but it only showed a lot of lines of Scannow, Scanonce, etc. I don't think it
actually scanned. Can anyone help? I have tried numerous things.

You need to post a new thread, not add your new issue as a reply to someone
else's thread - that's called hijacking. Also post some relevant info about
the history of the computer and this problem, and be specific about what you
have tried.
