I have an HP Pavilion desktop with WINXP Home installed... out of the
clear blue it will not boot up... I get the standard options to boot
in safe mode (hangs up), safe mode with cd support (hangs up), safe
mode with command prompt (hangs up), last know good config (hangs up),
boot normally (hangs up).... I have tried the Recovery Console with
both the bootable CD and new floppies created from Microsoft download
(both hang up)... because I cannot get into the Recovery Console I
cannot do any of the recommended methods for recovering from a corrupt
registry, XP crash, etc... I also tried to reinstall XP from the disk
boot up and when it searches for previous versions of windows... guess
what... it hangs up.... AAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!

I have read every post dealing with the iomdisk.sys and spent numerous
hours with Iomega Chat... they keep offering links to Microsoft... I
am in a never ending loop.... other than the obvious solution of
buying a new hard drive I thought I would ask the pros out there out
last time...

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Have you tried taking out the zip drive, then booting or reinstalling?
