Hi folks,

I have to setup our XPe image to include the drivers for one of our
printers. Unfortunately I don't have the first clue where to start. Is it
possible to allow the driver to be present but that's it? Some of our thin
clients will have them attached locally and some will be connecting to a
server share. The drivers are on the XP CD but I don't know how to get them
to the build.

Thanks,

You have to find and add that printer component to your build.
There are other ways to handle this.
Are you using the RAM write filter?
What printer is it?

Hi David,

I'm sorry but I don't know what a RAM write filter is, I've never worked
with neoware units before.

The printer is an Okidata ML320 Turbo. I know that the drivers are part of
XP Pro and available on the MS CD, I can't download them from the website.

Thanks,
Nancy

Hi David,

I think I have managed to get it there. I figured out what files the
printer needed to install and I copied them into the i386 directory. It did
detect the printer on bootup and the test printing appears to be working ok.

I'm still thinking that this wasn't the correct way to do this. Any insight
would be much appreciated.

Nancy,

The correct way to do that would be to include the proper printer component(s) in your image when you build it.
If you don't have a way to re-build and re-deploy your image you may want to contact the device manufacturer.

Thank you KM. As it is working, I'm not going to mess with it at this point.

For future though, can you point me to a good reference or two for newbies?
I don't know anything about the specifics of thin clients or XPe. I found
lots of stuff on the MS site but it was reall confusing.

Thanks,
Nancy
