I have always been able to create an index from multiple documents by marking
the Index Entries manually, then hitting Insert Index. Suddenly, when I tell
Word (2007) to create the Index, I get an error message that says: "!This
file could not be found..." and it then lists the name and path of the
document. So it obviously SEES the document, but ends up with a final error
message saying, "No Index Entries found." Help! I've tried everything...
moving the files around, using someone else's computer, and get the same
result. What is going on?

Something is wrong with the links to the external files. Show hidden text
(for example by pressing Ctrl+Shift+8) and also show field codes (Alt+F9).
If you see RD or INCLUDETEXT fields, verify that the paths are correct. Then
select the fields and press F9. Now you should be able to update your index
field.
