Hi i have a problem with one of my folders. My laptop keyboard was messed up
so i sent it for them to fix it, and they told me to backup my files incase
they needed to format it. Well i took the mydocuments folder from the c
drive and dragged it into my external hd. now that the laptop is sent i
tried accessing the folder from my desktop it would bring me upto the my
documents folder on the current desktop. It seems that i have created a
shortcut and when im trying to access it, it directs me to the my documents
on the desktop. Does anyone know how i can fix this?

If you created a shortcut, then that's all it is. There's NOTHING you can do
I'm afraid. Are the documents still on the internal HDD? They should not
have needed to touch the HDD just for replacing a keyboard........

If your repair shop had to format the HDD in replacing a keyboard 1) look
for a COMPETENT repair shop and 2) bill them for loss of data........

When i called in for repair they told me that they always do a full system
scan on the laptop and if they find anything wrong they will format it. I
guess ill try calling to comp tomorrow to see if they can stop it before
anything happens its only been like 12 hrs since ups picked up my package.

Then I guess you should DEFINITELY find a new repair shop. They should NEVER
do that without consulting you first.

The repair shop people may be incompetent by on what
grounds could the OP bill them for loss of data, seeing that
they asked him beforehand to back up his data?

He needs to call and notify them to the mistake and tell the repai
people to back it up before they start. If they do not, then h
can bill them for loss of data

Hey stevo I called them up tues morning and told them not to format it and they said that it was in my warranty that they have to do a full system scan when ever its being fixed and that theres no guarantee that they wont format it.

The brand is Averatec but I got through circuit city. I bought the advantage
care package, so the warranty is under circuit city.
