I did the most dumbest thing and downloaded the new Windows XP SP2 onto my
computer a couple of months ago and now nothing wants works. I am having
problems with messenger's, my norton anti-virus, installing other programs,
etc the list just goes on an on. I bought my computer On base (Military PX)
and it didn't come with a recovery cd which I desparately need right now. I
don't have a recovery cd to restart my computer to the way that I bought it
(which would be nice). I need to get this SP2 off of my computer and get SP1
back. Can anyone help me in finding and locating a HP Pavilion f50 Recovery
CD for my computer and also help me get SP1 back and get rid of SP2.
Thanks Summer

Look in Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and see if it's there. If it
is - uninstall it.

Hundreds of thousands of people have installed SP2 successfully on their
systems.

If you really need a recovery disk then you will have to ask the
manufacturer, in your case HP.

In Add/Remove Software there should be an option to remove SP2 - did you
look there?

Yes SP2 is able to uninstall but I thought that I had to have a Service
Package of somesort to have my computer to work properly. If I uninstall SP2
How do I get SP1 back onto my computer I have tried looking for it but I
can't find it on the microsoft website to download it everything is SP2 now.

Download it from here and save to your hard drive then install it.

Hi

If SP1 was already installed on the computer when you installed SP2,
an uninstall of SP2 will return you back to the state you had when you
installed SP2, a.k.a. SP1 will be back in place as before without you
needing to do anything (well, you may want to go to Windows Update and
install any new security updates).

Yeah But I read somewhere that there was a difference between SP1 and SP1a I
read that if you have windows xp you have to install SP1 instead of SP1a and
the site that you gave me is downloading SP1a. Will it be okay to install
that?

This is incorrect information, SP1a will install fine.

Yes. The only difference from SP1 and SP1a is that Microsoft's
Java Virtual Machine is removed from SP1a due to a legal twist
with Sun (but SP1a will *not* remove any existing MS JVM
installation that is already present on your computer).

So I uninstall SP2 and then Download SP1a and Install SP1a and then
everything should be fixed and back to normal right?

Hi

Hopefully, yes.

What happens if it doesn't work? Will I just need to get a recovery cd and
start all over? I still can not locate and buy a recovery cd for Windows XP
Home Edition.
