I started to a new copy of install win xp home, got as
far as backing up the files. when i went back the next
day to resume i realized i had thrown the packing away
along with my number. Its an origional disk and i have
the booklet. I know i cant be the first or last idiot to
do this. HElp!!

Just out of interest, when you buy a music cd, do you take it out of the
packaging to play it, and while it is playing, throw the packaging out?..
somehow, I doubt it..

I can't believe how many do this with a product that costs way more than the
average music cd..

When I buy a music CD I dont have a room full of empty
boxes, MD,HD, CDROM, Video Card and all. maybe if i ws
building my own CD player the I would through out the CD
case. any way thanks mike for pointing out the obvious. I
know ive just thrown $100 away but its its kind of you to
though your 2 cents in,

I know the problem well.. I can't throw boxes away either.. always thinking
that I might need them to send faulty goods back.. the best part is that I
never send anything back.. I have them all, and old parts that don't even
work and have no useful existence.. I do, however have a file binder that
zips up, kind of like a document case but with the rings.. Staples and
stores like it sell binder inserts that hold cds, so every time that I buy
or generate a computer cd, I place it in the folder and use a sticky label
to make a note of installation codes or any other pertinent feature.. I also
store web pages that I have printed off, stuff like how to do a repair
installation for instance..

You are probably thinking that I am a supercilious sob for suggesting the
obvious, but I will admit to having started this particular practice quite
recently.. in fairness though, I always knew where the XP and XP office cds
were, even though everything else was in total chaos.. :)
